Bollywood star Ajay Devgan kept some Chandigarh police officials waiting for over two hours at Taj hotel here. Guess, for what? Wrong, in case you thought for an autograph!
The police officials waited endlessly for the star Wednesday night for Rs.200 -- the fine imposed on him for smoking at the airport in the smoke-free city.
Despite the long wait, the actor did not appear before the police officials, who were waiting in the hotel's lobby.
The fine was imposed after an NGO filed a complaint Tuesday accusing Ajay Devgan of allegedly smoking at the Chandigarh airport Monday.
'I talked to Devgan over the phone and the producer of his film has assured us that they will pay the challan,' Bhupinder Singh, investigating officer, told IANS Thursday.
Ajay Devgan had come to Chandigarh Monday for shooting of a film.
'Paramjit (the producer) tried to put pressure on us by calling top officials of the Punjab government. He even told us that police have already issued a challan to Devgan,' a police official, who was present on the spot, told IANS on condition of anonymity.
Chandigarh became the first smoke-free city of India July 15, 2007. Smoking here is banned at all public places.
Ajay Devgan was also fined Wednesday at Kurali in Mohali, around 35 km from here, for allegedly smoking at a railway station there.

A Chandigarh-based non-government organisation (NGO) Tuesday filed a complaint against Bollywood actor Ajay Devgun for allegedly smoking at a public place.
'We have submitted a written complaint at the offices of senior superintendent of police and director of health services, Chandigarh. They have assured us of appropriate action against the the actor after probe,' Hemant Goswamy, chairperson of Burning Brain Society, told IANS.
Devgun, who had come to Chandigarh Monday for the shooting of a Bollywood film, was clicked by a photo journalist while smoking at the Chandigarh airport.
The city became the first smoke-free city of India as it was officially declared so July 15, 2007. Smoking is banned at all the public places as well as any place where the public has any access.

With a number of hits and super hits, and only a clutch of films hitting the pits, Hindi movies raked in the moolah in the year just gone by.
No year is without drama. And the film trade by its nature is one unending saga. The year gone by was no different. Big stars ruled: Akshay Kumar raked it rich, Aamir Khan was suave as ever, Shah Rukh Khan boastful as only he can afford to be. The controversies simmered: it started with ‘Jodhaa-Akbar’ and details of history, it continued till the end with ‘Ghajini’ and the court case. Some films were expected to do well but didn’t: films like ‘Halla Bol,’ ‘Tashan,’ ‘Sarkar Raaj,’ ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’… Others like ‘A Wednesday’ and ‘Aamir’ surprised with their good run. Then came the usual good moments. Here’s a look back at those which worked at the box office:
JANNAT
Emraan Hashmi could not attract a fly, leave alone get fans at the box office. Life was hell. Then came ‘Jannat’ and he started smiling. Such was the surprise at this little hit. Cricket, match fixing, romance, thrills, music…this Bhatt camp film packed it all to good effect.
JODHAA-AKBAR
The critics panned it. Historians raised pertinent questions about its authenticity. For a while, surprisingly fearful producers squirmed. Then more surprisingly, they showed some resilience and the film silenced many with its Hirithik Roshan-Aishwarya Rai take on a Moghul romance.
RACE
This was Abbas-Mustan in familiar territory: girls, guns, machines and speed. All combining to give a masala entertainer with the likes of Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor – yeah, he refuses to fade away – and Akshaye Khanna. Of course, Katrina Kaif and Bipasha helped. As did the music.
JAANE TU YA JAANE NA
This was a new colt thing. With Uncle Aamir watching from the sidelines, young Imran Khan announced his arrival as a chocolate boy for Gen Next. A campus romance, the film raked it rich at the box office, leaving Abbas Tyrewala with an enviable opener for a director.
A WEDNESDAY
Was it director Neeraj Pandey’s film? Or was it simply vintage Naseeruddin Shah at work? Either way, this low-key film worked at the box office with its tale of common man’s frustration at the system’s inadequacy. Some squirmed at the uncalled for parallel between religion and terror though.
ROCK ON
A little over half a decade ago he made it as a director with ‘Dil Chahta Hai.’ But 2008 was a breakthrough year for Farhan Akhtar the actor. He carried ‘Rock On’ on his shoulders. Of course, Arjun Rampal’s polished looks helped. The multiplex crowd roared in approval.
SINGH IS KINNG
The purists’ ill concealed distaste for melodrama notwithstanding, this Akshay Kumar film had a roaring opening, with the North Indian crowd specially finding his exchanges with the fair doll Katrina Kaif hilarious. And a little bout with Sonu Sood enthusing. It crowned Kumar as Masala King.
DOSTANA
It opened sufficiently well not to need a long run. But even before the release the Karan Johar film had been talked about for projecting mainstream stars Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham as gays! The society’s changing mindset ensured the people had a smile, not a frown on their face.
GOLMAAL RETURNS
Got a good thing? Keep it going. That was the magic mantra of director Rohit Shetty as he sought to capitalise on the success of the first film with this sequel. Again the masses and the classes could not see eye to eye. The former loved it, the latter panned it, but did not watch it!
RAB NE BANA DI JODI
Aditya Chopra came back after ages. Shah Rukh looked aged too. Newcomers Anushka was passable but not a stunner! The music was okay but a couple of tracks did just fine. As did Shah Rukh’s charisma. The film kept SRK smiling in the battle of the Khans also starring Aamir and Salman.
GHAJINI
If the colt had impressed with Jaane Tu… the old war horse continued to be unfailingly successful. Around this time, Aamir had the connoisseurs happy with ‘Taare Zameen Par.’ This past December, he had the masses queuing up for ‘Ghajini’ that also introduced Asin to Hindi filmgoers.
NICE NICHE
Even if the box office lived up to its reputation of being a no sanctuary for any bird, films like ‘Aamir,’ ‘Mithya,’ ‘Tahaan,’ ‘Dasvidaniya,’ not to forget ‘Mukhbir’ did well enough to attract some attention.

The British third seed frustrated Federer with his tactical nous from the baseline to chalk up his fifth win in six matches against the 13-times grand slam champion.
Murray will be hoping to retain his title when he takes on American Andy Roddick in the final.
The world number four earned the sole break point of the opening set but could only watch from the baseline as Federer conjured up a screeching forehand winner to avert the danger.
The Swiss, who will be seeking to win a record-equalling 14th grand slam crown at the Australian Open later this month, let slip a 4-1 lead in the tiebreak and had to save a set point at 5-6 with a delicate backhand volley.
An ace moved him 7-6 ahead and he kept his focus to caress a backhand crosscourt winner and take the set on the hour mark.
From then on, Federer appeared to fade away as Murray produced winners from all angles. He hit back to win the second set with two breaks, often giving a frustrated Federer the runaround.
Leading 2-1 in the deciding set, Murray called in the trainer to get his back massaged. The interruption failed to distract him and he relentlessly attacked the Federer backhand to immediately gain a 3-1 lead.
Winning only two games from 2-2 in the second set, Federer compounded his own misery by producing a string of unforced errors.
Barely able to produce the form that has arguably made him the greatest player to pick up a tennis racket, Federer surrendered the match by slamming an easy overhead into the net.

Famous Bollywood playback singer Shaan is among the best singers on the block but he continues to take music lessons from his teacher.
A friend of the singer said: 'Shaan says that he is still a student as far as singing is concerned. Though he is already an acclaimed singer, he continues taking tutorials under the guidance of Gulam Mustafa Khan sahab.
'Shaan feels that every time he learns the art from his master, he discovers something new - an aspect of singing that he hasn't explored.'
PASADENA, Calif. – Dancers paid tribute to Broadway and sari-clad models represented India's Bollywood films as the New Year's Day Rose Parade entertained thousands of fans with the theme "Hats Off to Entertainment."
There was even a robot, a 49-foot-tall mechanical man named Asimo who tipped his top hat on a float sponsored by Honda Motor Co. The crowd was wowed when fireworks and streamers shot out of the doffed hat.
"That was something," said Peggy Tesh, 82, who came to the parade with her family from North Carolina.
At one point, the towering robot snapped an overhead cable holding a street sign, but no one was injured, said police spokeswoman Janet Pope Gibbons.
The venerable Saturday movie matinee was represented in the entertainment theme by a swamp creature on a float with a dragon and a gorilla.
The recession didn't keep the crowds away as they were greeted with sunshine and a temperature in the low 50s.
And the housing crisis didn't deter the National Association of Realtors, which entered its first float in the Rose Parade. It was one of 46 entries — some from major companies with sagging stock prices such as Honda and Macy's — in the floral extravaganza that has marched on through the Great Depression and world wars for 120 years.
The realtors' float — planned more than a year ago, before the flood of foreclosures and the credit crunch that has made mortgages hard to come by — was dubbed "Celebrating the Dream of Homeownership for 100 Years." It showcased a Victorian-style house covered with corn husks, coconut flakes, sesame seeds, roses and orchids.
That long-term planning also applied to some parade-watchers such as Gail and George Braun, who came from Pasadena, Md., to attend the parade and to pull for Penn State against USC in the Rose Bowl game later Thursday.
"The stock market has impacted us, but we planned this back in March," George Braun said. "If it was planned last month, we might not be doing this."
"It's been a dream to come through here," Gail Braun said. "I just love the flowers."
For the second straight year, the irrigation firm Rain Bird won the prestigious Sweepstakes Trophy for most beautiful float for its Safari-themed entry, "Entertaining Expedition," which featured flowing water, a giant moving elephant and three giraffes.
This year's grand marshal was 82-year-old actress and recent "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Cloris Leachman.
The parade also featured 21 marching bands and 18 equestrian units along the 5 1/2-mile route.
Pasadena police estimated more than a million people would attend the parade and the annual Rose Bowl game that follows it, plus various other Tournament of Roses festivities.
Police Lt. Randell Taylor said thousands of parade watchers had staked out viewing spots as early as Wednesday night.
Police arrested 36 people along the parade route, mostly for public intoxication. One man was arrested for throwing beer bottles into the crowd; he was subdued by bystanders until police arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon, Taylor said.

(NSI News Source Info) January 1, 2009: No debutante could have had a better debut than actress Asin. She was a renowned actress down south and she got a chance to make a debut opposite the great Aamir Khan. Ghajini is the biggest hit of the year and Asin is flooded with Bollywood offers… Lucky isn’t it! Thats what she feels. “I was approached for ‘London Dreams’ while I was shooting for ‘Ghajini’. I don’t know how they found out about me. I have just finished a long schedule of shooting the film abroad and some of it is still left.
“But I feel I have received a very warm welcome to Bollywood. Both my initial projects are with good banners, actors and filmmakers. I feel lucky and blessed,” she told IANS.

Films like "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na", "Rock On", "Dostana" were real cult films based on friendship, love and bonding. Not only they were hit as a film but also musically scored high on the music charts for long. A one time watch to these films was not enough and there were many who re-visited the theaters just to have more of it. After all "Ye dil maange more". However, it proved that such films are very well-accepted especially among the youth who always hunt for something that they can relate to best.
No doubt we will be having more of it from "Bollywood" in fact one of its kind is being produced by King Khan himself. So why just new films and not a sequel to existing ones. Just imagine once again rats and meow, rock band and some more humour with confused relationships all set in a new setting. Would it not be great delight, once again to have all of them on-screen together?Filled with fun, whacky jokes and situations were movies like "Singh is Kinng" and "Golmaal Returns". These movies thrilled the audiences at the edge of their seats. What more is needed after a boring week of all work? A complete entertainment package and that was delivered by these movies. However, director Rohit Shetty understood the need of the audiences and without wasting any time he announced a sequel to Golmaal Returns. If we can have Golmaal returning back so why not "Return of Singh is Kinng"?
Hope director Anees Bazmee is listening....How can one forget that crow from the movie "Phoonk" and that chalky face ghost in "1920"? Both the movies were good attempts to rejuvenate the aura of "bhoot" and "black magic" terror. The sequel to "Phoonk" is in talks and we sure hope this time they replace the crow with a black cat so that we can have "meow" instead of that "caw caw". Talking about 1920 if we there is a sequel to this film then this time it maybe the actor's turn to get in a ghost get-up and fly all-over the screen. Will these projects turn up or not is still a question but for now we do have "Raaz-2" on the list.
After cult, comedy and horror now its time for some action. Till now "Dhoom and Dhoom-2" were regarded as best action movie but now its "Ghajini". Soaked in romance and action the film is known to be one of its kinds in "Bollywood".Coming up next in this list is the movie "Race". It was more of a suspense thriller but had some mind-blowing action sequences too. So how about carrying it forward for some more action ride.Last but not the least "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" a light hearted romantic film that was appreciated by all. The film was expected to repeat the history of "Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge" but in every comparison it was considered less than it. Looking at the situation it feels like Yash Raj should have a sequel for "DDLJ" first and hopefully RNBDJ next.
Now that's all the films we would love to see sequels of but unfortunately we heard more about duds like Drona for which the director and actors are all set to make sequels regardless of the bombing of the first film. Now that's a pity isn't it? Audiences which movie would you like to see a sequel of the most?

Brad Pitt's Definition Of Cheating With Angelina Jolie May Be The Pitts(NSI News Source Info) January 7, 2009: Brad Pitt's no cheater – at least not by his definition.
The 45-year-old actor has come out swinging (again) at allegations that he began an affair with Angelina Jolie on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" while he was still married to Jennifer Aniston.
Pitt announced his split from Aniston soon after the movie wrapped.
"What people don't understand is that we filmed for a year. We were still filming after Jen and I split up," he says in the February issue of W magazine.Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie got close on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."
"Even then it doesn't mean that there was some kind of dastardly affair. There wasn't."
But, like many spouses before him, Pitt's definition of what constitutes an affair might be little ... off. Experts say it's not just about sex.
"An emotional affair is an affair. If you find yourself having feelings for someone, that is the beginning of an affair," says Rachel Sussman, a New York-based marriage and family therapist
So whether Pitt and Jolie consummated their relationship while he was still married to Aniston is irrelevant, she says.
Jolie, who now has six children with Pitt, raised eyebrows in October after she told the New York Times that "not a lot of people get to see a movie where their parents fell in love" - referencing her steamy onscreen role opposite Pitt in "Smith."
Aniston later pegged Jolie's remarks as "uncool" in an interview with Vogue magazine.
Both Jolie and Pitt have denied that they began dating during his marriage and Pitt now says that his early relationship with Jolie was "respectful" of his marriage with Aniston.
But Pitt's definition of what's "respectful" might differ from his ex-wife's.
"Men do tend to walk around feeling that unless I'm having sex, I'm not doing anything wrong," says M. Gary Neuman, psychotherapist and author of "The Truth About Cheating: Why Men Stray and What You Can Do to Prevent It."
But for women, he says, the idea of what's cheating is more broad.
"Women can be uncomfortable with the husband talking about how many lunches he's had with an associate. There is a difference of perspective."
Extramarital sex, he adds, "is only painful because it says how far the emotional affair went."
Both Sussman and Neuman agree that spouses can avoid becoming too close to a member of the opposite sex.
Playful banter in the workplace, business dinners and lengthy work trips away from family can all be "dangerous situations" Sussman says – let alone playing a hot-to-trot married couple in a movie like Pitt and Jolie.
Emotional cheating may be difficult to avoid, says Sussman. Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston while shooting "Smith," but says he never cheated on her. "In a long-term committed monogamous relationship, we'd be foolish to think nothing like [that] would happen in our lives. It does happen," Sussman says.
"We have to be aware that these things can happen and know when to draw the line." - Save $10

only $59.99 - Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan may have a mutual admiration society and both may bond with each other superbly, but as a child the 'Ghajini' star never thought that Big B would make it to the top.
Aamir, who is riding on the success of his latest film 'Ghajini,' made this disclosure at the unveiling of the latest book on the megastar titled 'Bachchanalia' here Saturday evening.
Aamir said that since he was born into a family of filmmakers, talks at home were mostly about films and film stars of those days.
'So, we kids at home would also discuss films and even our housemaids would put in their 'knowledgeable' remarks,' he said.
He recalled that in 1970 Filmfare magazine had devoted an entire page on those who were struggling to make it big in films and had their photographs.
'We all huddled over it, and from their looks in the photographs, we tried to predict who could make the grade in films and who would not. While pouring over the photographs, when we came to the one with an emaciated face, we kids and our housemaids had a hearty laugh and I mocked at the photograph, saying 'Inko dekho. Ye bhi star banana chahata hai!' (Look at him. He also wants to be a star!),' Aamir said and continued coyly: 'And that unlikely hopeful was Mr. Bachchan.'His revelation evoked a roar of laughter from the gathering. Amitabh, who was sitting besides his wife Jaya, son Abhishek, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, laughed the loudest.
Aamir said that Amitabh could reach the superstardom by dint of his sheer talent alone and he deserved every bit of his success.
'In the film industry today, there are a number of success stories, but most of them are fake. We are yet to see anybody in the industry scaling the height as Mr. Bachchan has done on the strength of his talent alone. Perhaps, nobody will,' he said.
'Bachchanalia', the pictorial book, with accompanying text, covers the almost four- decade-long journey of Big B as an actor. Written by journalist Bhawna Somaiya, the book has been published by Osian. It was released at Tata Theatre in the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai. - Save $10
