6 packs...2.

srinivas

The Khans seem to have a thing for six-pack abs. After Salman Khan made a career out of taking off his shirt, Shah Rukh Khan made headlines when he showed off his body in Om Shanti Om. Now, it’s Aamir’s turn to bulk up for his forthcoming movie Ghajni. With his heavily muscled and tattooed body, the actor is sure to set another trend.

Here’s one good reason to watch the forthcoming movie,Dostana. Yup, it’s John Abraham in his outrageously sexy body.

Life really does begin at 40 for King Khan, who followed a special diet and workout to achieve this stunning body.

Akshay loves to surprise us. From serious to comedy king, from devilishly debonair to boy-next-door and from ho-hum physique to an all new toned body, he does it all in style.

Hrithik’s got it all — looks, talent and a killer body that just keeps looking superhot every s-i-n-g-l-e time.

Here’s why Salman Khan cannot wait to take his shirt off every chance he gets. With a body like that, we can’t really blame him.

You may not see Dino flash his impeccable pecs very often, but when he does, he will leave you soccer-punched!

Back when he was just starting out, Saif was not the Mr Universe kind. But the years have been kind to him. Now, his grungy look is making him very popular with the ladies.

Until a few years ago, our Bollywood actors didn't really find it necessary to stay in shape and flaunt well-toned & chiseled bodies. Couple of decades back, Sanjay Dutt and Sunny Deol started the trend of actors displaying their physique on screen. However, it was only after the arrival of Salman Khan that every young actor, wannabe models & actors started hitting the gym with a vengeance. However, the older lot of actors who were in their 40's still didn't find it mandatory to flaunt their bare bodies on screen. All this changed when Shah Rukh Khan decided to give the young actors a run for their money by working out and flaunting his six-pack in the ''Dard-e-Disco'' track in 'Om Shanti Om'. Soon six-pack became the buzzword and every actor (young or old) has been hitting the gym (some to stay in shape while others to flaunt their torso on screen).

We bring you the best of bare-chested Bollywood hunks.

    Salman Khan

It would not be fair to start this gallery with any other actor except Salman Khan. After all, he is the one who started it nearly two decades ago. Even in his first few films like 'Baaghi', 'Suryavanshi' and 'Nishchay', this gawky looking teenager didn't mind flaunting his body( though he wasn't really muscular and beefed-up then).Post that films like 'Veergati' and 'Judwaa' saw the emergence of the new and muscular Salman. However, the turning point in his chest-flaunting career was the ''Oh Oh Jaane Jaana'' song in 'Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya', which took the nation by storm and marked the arrival of Bollywood's first bare-chested hunk. Post that, it became usual for Sallu to drop his shirt in every other film. The trend has not stopped and even his upcoming release 'Hello' features Salman going bare-chested and shouting ''Bang Bang Bang''.

Shah Rukh is known to be a fighter. How else do you explain someone who is above 40 years going all out and acquiring 6 pack abs at his son's behest? While many thought it was quite a Herculean task, SRK proved them wrong and as soon as the first promos of the ''Dard-e-Disco'' song were unveiled, Bollywood had found its middle-aged bare-chested hunk. Girls couldn't get enough of seeing their favorite superstar in this new toned avatar and soon every actor worth his salt was seen flocking to the nearest gym. 'Om Shanti Om' turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters and ''Dard-e-Disco'' & SRK's 6-pack abs surely had a major contribution to that.

    Saif Ali Khan
When he started out with films like 'Aashiq Awara' and 'Parampara', many slotted Saif Ali Khan as the chocolate boy romantic hero. In fact, not many would have even believed that within a matter of few years, he would go on to become one of the leading hunks of tinsel town. After a string of flops, Saif's career was going nowhere till 'Dil Chahta Hai' happened and the rest as they say is history. Soon, from being cute Saif was termed as uber cool. However Saif sprung yet another surprise when he went bare-chested in the title track of 'Salaam Namaste' .Suddenly from being cute to being cool, Saif was now considered HOT. The 'Chhote Nawab' worked out even harder and films like 'Race' and 'Tashan' have seen him flaunting his chiseled body even as the girls in the audience go gaga. This boy has surely grown into a Man or should we say Hunk.

    Hrithik Roshan
The new millennium gave us a new star - Hrithik Roshan. With a launch pad like 'Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai', Hrithik couldn't have asked for more. He was appreciated for his looks, his acting, his dancing, and even his amazing physique. The next few films like 'Fiza', 'Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage' saw a beefed up Hrithik flaunting his biceps and chest muscles to the maximum. He even went bare-chested in the Rajshri dud 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' but didn't find too many takers. However with changing times, Duggu too went in for the well-toned and chiseled look and when the first look of 'Dhoom 2' was unveiled, all eyes were fixed only on Hrithik flaunting his picture perfect 6-pack abs. This actor had surely arrived as one of the hottest Bollywood hunks in a real big way. Even recently in the period drama 'Jodhaa Akbar', Hrithik flaunted his physique in that stupendous fight sequence with a violent elephant. At the end of it, even the poor elephant fell for his charm.

    John Abraham
People often say, "Models cant act". However, one thing which most models have, is a well-toned and chiseled body. John Abraham was no exception. This former Grasim Mr. India winner made a sensational debut with 'Jism' opposite Bipasha Basu. In his first film itself, John displayed his torso with élan and had the girls drooling over his physique. John kept working on his acting and physique simultaneously and the results were there for all to see. Like Salman Khan, most of John's films like 'Paap', 'Elaan', 'Garam Masala', 'Zinda' featured him in a bare-chested shot. His recent release 'No Smoking' may not have found many takers but who can forget that scene in which John coolly stands bare-chested in front of a mirror and lights up a cigar. However, the talk of the town is the physique that the hunk has acquired for his forthcoming film 'Dostana'. The first promos showed a beefed up, bare-chested John emerging out of the beach and you cant help but notice the chiseled V-shaped torso and those picture-perfect abs. This hunk surely has been an inspiration for many young guys to hit the gym.

    Akshay Kumar
Akshay Kumar has always believed in sporting a lean and mean look rather than a muscular look. What's more, the actor himself has gone on record saying that its sports like running and martial arts that he follows to keep fit, rather than hitting the gym and lifting weights. The fact that he doesn't have a really beefed up built like some of his contemporaries, has not deterred Akki from dropping his shirt. In fact, in his first few films like 'Saugandh' and 'Khiladi', Akki has given bare-chested shots. He was quite thin then. By the time 'Main Khiladi Tu Anadi' released, Akshay had a decent athletic frame and girls immediately took a liking to this handsome looking hunk. In recent times, his 'Dil Samandar' song along with John in 'Garam Masala' surely sent the temperatures soaring and even in his forthcoming film 'Blue', we may get to see a bare-chested Akki doing some dare devil underwater stunts. A few weeks back, Akki set the ramp on fire as he displayed his chiseled torso while modeling for Levi's 501 brand of jeans. Must say looking hot and sexy is surely in Akshay's genes.

    Ranbir Kapoor
Many actors seem to have certain inhibitions about dropping their shirt and going bare-chested. However new kid on the block Ranbir Kapoor didn't have any hesitation in not just going bare-chested but even dropping his towel in his debut film 'Saawariya'. In spite of the famous towel dropping shot facing the brunt of the censors, Ranbir with his boy-next door looks, six-pack abs became the latest pin-up boy in Bollywood. The Kapoor dude even repeated his bare-chested act in his latest flick 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' as he serenades lady love Deepika Padukone to the soulful tunes of 'Khuda Jaane'. This young lad indeed has it all - Good looks, amazing acting talent and of course a lean and chiseled physique.
    makingofoso001au31.jpg
After SRK was seen flaunting his six pack abs in Om Shanti Om it’s become a style statement to own a six or eight pack abs. While the actors like Sanjay Dutt and Aamir Khan are working day and night to get their abs right, there still remain some models who couldn’t build up a perfect look.

“Most of them doctor their abs to make them look perfect before the camera. There’s a lot of colouring and contouring going on to make the abs look prominent on those midriffs. Very few actors have authentic six-abs. I do,”

protests model turned actor Aryan Vaid.
While the docs suggest that acquiring the six pack abs without a proper trainer is not healthy, we still wish to see more hotties flaunting their sexy body.

Once upon a time, and for a very long time at that, the American leading man had a square jaw, a glinty gaze and an imposing physique.

But that has changed. The new generation of Hollywood's young leading men are soft of cheek, with limpid stares and wiry frames.

Tobey Maguire, who began swinging across thousands of American movie screens this week as the title character in ''Spider-Man 2,'' is only one of a new crop of leading men who are remaking the central-casting image of what a male film star should look like. The new hero is less Tom Cruise, more Jake Gyllenhaal, less ''Top Gun,'' more ''Bubble Boy.''

Casting directors, agents and movie executives say that the shift has happened during the last decade as a generation of romantic and action heroes have passed into middle age, among them Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford and Kevin Costner.

They have been replaced by young men who look and seem very different. There is the thoughtful, vegetarian Mr. Maguire, who turned 29 on Sunday, and the lanky Mr. Gyllenhaal, 23, a star in ''The Day After Tomorrow.'' Other new-model leading men include Orlando Bloom, a slim British actor who stars in ''Troy'' this summer and was recently cast as the lead warrior in ''Kingdom of Heaven,'' a Crusader epic directed by Ridley Scott; the baby-faced Leonardo DiCaprio, who rose to fame as the artistic stowaway in ''Titanic'' and has been cast as Alexander the Great in a movie being developed by the director Baz Luhrmann; and the brooding Ryan Gosling, the romantic lead of ''The Notebook,'' which opened on Friday.

While there is always demand for Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, who are both over 40, Hollywood is an entertainment machine that is constantly hungry for new talent. When it comes to younger actors, studio chiefs and casting directors have begun to recognize that the traditionally masculine star has grown hard to come by.

''They are always looking for the macho man, but they are pulling from this other group, who are strong but more overtly sensitive and more emotionally available, because that's what there is right now,'' said Debra Zane, a leading casting director who has worked on films like ''American Beauty'' and ''The Terminal.''

''There's always the desire for the sort of Russell Crowe types, which is to say a man's man,'' she added. ''They're always in demand. And in short supply. And why is that? I don't know why.''

These days Mr. Crowe, an Australian, seems to top the list of actors when studio executives cast about for big-screen virility. The others who make this shortlist also tend not to be American. ''When we want a tough guy, we go to Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Colin Farrell,'' observed Jim Gianopulos, a co-chairman of Fox. Mr. Jackman, this summer's vampire killer in ''Van Helsing,'' is Australian; Mr. Farrell, soon to star in another Alexander the Great film -- this one directed by Oliver Stone -- is Irish.

''Whether it's coincidental or otherwise, one thing that is apparent is there aren't as many macho-driven stars from here as there are from other parts of the world,'' Mr. Gianopulos said. The new crop of pure action stars, like Vin Diesel and the Rock, have drifted into niche movies; Mr. Diesel's would-be summer blockbuster, ''The Chronicles of Riddick,'' has been a bust.

Some say the evolving style of the Hollywood leading man may reflect a more feminized American society, the rise of the metrosexual male and the absence, until recently, of war and true hardship in the last two decades of American life. Hollywood veterans draw a contrast with the generation of actors who came out of the Depression or wartime, when hardship could be read in the faces of stars like Humphrey Bogart and, later, Steve McQueen.

''We have a lot of pretty guys running around with six-pack abs, but they lack authenticity and credibility,'' said Robert Newman, a leading agent at International Creative Management. ''In the 1950's a lot of men had been in the war; some of them became actors. They lived hard lives. There was a weight that came out of it.'' He added, ''When Steve McQueen took his shirt off, he's thin, he's not ripped. There's a hardness and danger about him because of who he was.''

To most movie fans worldwide, Vatsal Seth came out of nowhere in 2004, bouncing from his debut film Tarzan-The Wonder Car to a brief appearance in Nanhe Jaisalmer, then snatching a lead role in Samir Karnik’s biggest film Heroes which releases on October 24. Yet to the Indian audiences, Vatsal was already a well known face. Having been the face of many television commercials over the previous decade, and the famous sitcom ‘Just Mohabbat’, he’d become a household name. But Sheth’s career must surely bring hope to all aspiring screen actors. Seldom has someone of such low cinematic standing and of such little experience climbed so fast in the Bollywood firmament. Devansh Patel, Bollywood Hungama’s London correspondent, gets hold of the young hero and finds out about his biggest film yet, his experiences of shooting in Ladakh, his fussy eating habits, his respect for Salman Khan, Mithunda’s special treat to him, Preity Zinta’s non stop talking, his six pack abs and why he thinks that Heroes will rise this Diwali. Over to the nanhe nawab!

Bollywood actors are spending most of their money on taxes. It is because of them that so much of money is going into our treasury and that is really good for us. But wonder if the government is making good use of it.

Here is a list of our top Bollywood tax payers.

Top individual advance income taxpayers in Bollywood of 2007-2008 till December 31.

Shah Rukh Khan-27 Rs crore:Om Shanti Om and Chak De India, besides money earned from advertisements have enabled him to contribute so much.

Akshay Kumar- Rs 7 crore:Consecutive hits like Bhool Bhulaiya and Welcome have really added to the stunt man’s purse.

Abhishek Bachchan- Rs 3.7 crore Not many releases this year caused him to pay so less this time. Also, the man was busy with his newly wedded wife.

Aamir Khan-Rs 3 crore: Last year he paid around 6 crore. This time it has become half the amount. Tax collectors however, are rejoicing with Taare Zameen Par’s success. TZP has been a hit at the box office which is real good news for the treasuery.

Himesh Reshammiya-Rs 2.5 crore:
With more singing contracts in hand even his Tax payment has increased.

Amitabh Bachan :-Rs 1.8 crore:Well this is actually surprising. Big B seems to be in almost all the movies and he is paying so less. Tax officials please look nto the matter.

Working hard and shedding out in crores is painful sometimes especially for these actors.

Everything has its price, including stardom.

What do you say guys.

As we all know that Six pack fever has firstly started in Bollywood industry and in this industry Sharukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and others were already seen in Six pack and in this gang actor Sanjay Dutt is also going to join in it. But he is not going to seen in Six pack, he is going to be seen in Eight pack and for this about 26kgs of his weight has been reduced.
His upcoming movie “Blue” has been started and the director of this movie has said to Sanjay that he should look more fit in the movie and in this action scenes should be done superb. This is the main reason that Sanjay made his body into eight pack. The intresting news is that Sanjay has been trained by an hollywood trainer Lawrence who has been brought to Mumbai from Los Angles. Lawrence has exclaimed that he is quite surprised by seeing Sanjay’s intention in building up his body and he is taking a very special care in it.

The Winner between Saawariya and Om Shanti Om is...Bollywood

The Winner between Saawariya and Om Shanti Om is...Bollywood

srinivas

Farah Khan's latest blockbuster, Om Shanti Om, asks the big questions. Namely, who needs Hollywood muscle when we've got Shah Rukh's six pack?

For many Bollywood fans, the Diwali showdown between Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya and Farah Kahn's Om Shanti Om was a battle of publicity to see whether two handsome fresh faces could stand up at the box office against Shah Rukh Khan's sculpted abs.

But the fact that Om Shanti Om took the top prize (not just in India, but overseas as well) shouldn't be simply interpreted as a win for a certain marketing strategy -- tempting as it may be to, once again, draw attention to SRK's greased upper body. Rather,Om Shanti Om's victory is a symbolic victory for Bollywood over Hollywood.

Every announcement for Saawariya made mention of the fact that it is the first Bollywood production funded by Tinseltown powerhouse Sony Pictures. In terms of set design and production values, one could argue that it displays a Hollywood veneer and is, without a doubt, one of the most technically lavishing Hindi films of all time. But audiences were only half interested. Its $16 million international opening was no small feat, but it couldn't match Om Shanti Om's almost $20 million.

One can call Farah Kahn's sophomore effort the opposite ofSaawariya, which is in many ways the embodiment of Hollywood's increased interest in staking a piece of the impenetrable South Asian market. Om Shanti Om, on the other hand, is a symbol of just that impenetrability. Filled with in-jokes piled upon in-jokes, references to the corpus of popular Hindi cinema and an already-famous dance number featuring cameos by 31 (31!!!) of Bollywood's past legends and new superstars, Om Shanti Ompays off on the audience's vested interest in (and knowledge of) Bollywood as a self-sustaining, industrially-isolated, entertainment factory.

If Saawariya is centered on a pair of unknown young actors, Om Shanti Om is an ode to super-stardom. At one point in the film, we see Shah Rukh Khan's character, a movie star named Om Kapoor, standing on a bridge, looking at a billboard of himself in an advertisement for watches. But that's not Om paying tribute to his own superstardom. It's Om paying tribute to Shah Rukh Khan, who in real life is a for Tag Heuer watches. Such double meanings can be read from beginning to end in the way the film repeatedly winks at the viewers who get the references.

Another example of this extravagant self-reflexivity is in one of the film's most hilarious scenes. The setting is the annual Filmfare Awards, during which we see Abhishek Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, and of course, Shah Rukh Khan parody their star personas in a series of ridiculous mock films with titles like Main Bhi Hoona Na, Dhoom 5, and Phir Bhi Dil hai NRI. If these titles aren't funny to you, then either you're a hard sell, or you're an outsider -- which precisely proves my point that Om Shanti Om doesn't just acknowledge Bollywood's impenetrability, but it revels in it, thumbing its nose at that other industry across the Pacific. The one that rhymes with Bollywood, but could never be it.

That attitude can be seen in the contrasts between the two films' uses of new actors. SRK's leading lady, Deepika Padukone is an unknown in Bollywood, but she's not a fresh face in the waySaawariya's leads are. In the case of Saawariya, the kids represent something new in Bollywood. Padukone, on the other hand, represents Bollywood's long-lasting ability to constantly replenish its ranks with talented and beautiful stars. This is flaunted in the scenes of Padukone's character being groomed for stardom in the film-within-the-film. And when she strolls down the red carpet and catches the eye of Om in the year's most mouth-wateringly sensational slow-motion, we see the birth of a star, not just within the film, but in the Hindi film world more generally. In such scenes, Padukone embodies the aura that is Bollywood.

Ultimately, Om Shanti Om is about the production of that aura. As in Singin' in the Rain (which the film's first half references), Om Shanti Om takes us behind the scenes of the film industry, not to deconstruct it, but to add to its wonder. In a scene in which the two lovers tour the backstage of a studio lot, you get the feeling that the boundary between the world of film and the "real" world is porous -- that a regular "junior artiste" can sing, dance, grin, and shoot lustful love glances like Shah Rukh Khan can. You come out wanting to believe in the industry's magic.

The film's first half also contains an incredible musical number with more set and costume changes than a Freed Unit musical, with SRK transforming from action star to badminton ace to puffy-shirted pirate in a matter of seconds, while the décor goes from retro flash to candy pastels with equal ease. The sets may not be as beautiful as the ones in Saawariya, but they visually display Bollywood as enchanting, indestructible, and peerless.

And to make Om Shanti Om's pro-Bollywood stance that much more explicit, there is the way it defines its villains and heroes. Let's just say that this is the kind of movie in which the bad guy is an Indian movie producer corrupted by Hollywood, and the good guy is the sort of man who knows that any dull film -- even arthouse dramas about traumatized paraplegics -- can be saved by the timely inclusion of a lavish disco number complete with scantily-clad females and pyrotechnics.

For if Saawariya points to (even pleads for) a future that sees Bollywood and Hollywood working in cross-cultural harmony (for the financial gain of Sony Pictures, of course), then Om Shanti Omtours the history of Bollywood and says with a shrug: why kowtow to the West, when we've already out Hollywood-ed Hollywood for the past half century? Now, there's nothing necessarily radical about such a stance -- it could simply be the Bollywood elite trying to keep power in its clutches. But Om Shanti Om's victory at the box office is a clear indication that Bollywood fans like to have their own stars, their own genres, and their own trashy, indulgent, gaudy sense of brilliant fun, and that Hollywood's hands are no match for Farah Khan's sizzling choreography and Shah Rukh's glistening abs.

6 pack..

6 pack fever traveled from bollywood to tollywood and now to Kollywood.

Actor Surya is getting ready for the release of his next venture ‘Vaaranam Aayiram directed by Gautham Menon. One of the requirements of the script where his screen age spans 17 to 65 years, was a well toned physique. Stickler for perfection that he is, Surya got into the act and began working out for 8 months under the strict supervision of a skilled trainer, Alkhas. The result is a Surya with lean, muscular body and a six pack.

Surya told media that he got certain tips from Amir khan as they had developed friendship for sake of Bollywood Gazini Movie.

Controversies never eluded Salman Khan but the original six-pack boy ofBollywood has learnt the tricks of the trade and the rules of the road.

With experience Salman has become more patient and diplomatic. He takes one question at a time and answers articulately. TWF Bollywood correspondent caught up with the actor who now entertains millions of TV audience as the host of a game show “Dus ka Dum” on Sony.

Weren’t films enough?
Nothing but only the format attracted me. I never decide things, it just happened. I thought the format was interesting, easy and would appeal to many.

Interesting…
Yes, it is easy for the contestants. Dus Ka Dum has an easy format and for this the contestants need not be extraordinarily educated or intelligent. This game show does not embarrass the contestants if they fail.

So you are comfortable hosting this show?
Oh certainly. It also does not require the host to be very intelligent. I think they got the right person to host this show. (Winks)

Is that confidence?
See, I might not be the best host but I don’t think anyone else could have done this job better. I will do pretty much the same thing…acting and I know that is the only thing I can do to my best ability.

After Amitabh Bachchan and SRK you are hosting a show. Does that mean competition?
No way…please… You can’t compare three individuals. We all have different styles. And I feel it’s very unfair to compare me with Amitabh Bachchan…someone who did films like Sholay and Deewar.

And what about SRK giving you some handy tips on hosting this show?
(He...he…he…pauses…ha...ha…ha….) How could that even come to your mind? Why will he give me tips? And why should I take tips from him?

Tell me how would you avoid the media attention now? You have always stayed away from limelight. You will be seen on television now.
See, I have changed a lot. I like answering things straight. So it won’t be a problem. Earlier I had said many things openly, which got lost in translation. But they never bothered me but these days I feel scared.

I get mails from my fans asking me aggressive questions…like… why did you do this…or did you do that. So I like being asked straight questions and prefer asking them straight.

I also get anxious these days because my parents are getting old. They start panicking along with me. Tell me who would like to see his parents in that state?

You have a lot of grievances against the media…
No it’s not that. I don’t blame everyone. It’s one or two people who always did this. I said something and they wrote something…

Tell me honestly…are you confident that this show will be a hit?
Yes I am. I know my fan following and I have left everything to them. They turned so many of my bad films into hits, so I am sure they will make this show a hit too.

What about the idea of calling SRK on the show and make him play with you?
I haven’t thought of it.

But he called you on KBC. Wasn’t that a great episode?
I think that was the best episode. I am sure no other episode of KBC was as popular as was the one where I was there. It was a brilliant episode and I enjoyed it. But I haven’t decided on calling Shah Rukh yet. I have my favourites like Sanjay Dutt whom I would love to have on this show.

And will you do more of television after this?
No, that is something I am sure of. I want to get back into films- acting. I am an actor. Let me do my bit of acting in Bollywood (chuckles).

Tell me about your personal life?
What do you want to know?

Okay…when are you getting married?
Someday very soon…

Very soon?
Yes, it will happen as and when it happens but one thing is sure that I will get married. I also have my duties towards my parents. They are getting old and who doesn’t want to see his son or daughter get married. I will definitely marry because it’s a beautiful thing to happen.

Om Shanti Om has proved be a greater hit than Saawariya. The review that it has got is good and better than Saawariya but it has not turned out to be as it was expected. The movie’s total credit goes to Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika. A Farah Khan movie has lot of expectations but when she has Shah Rukh Khan she need not worry. After the first show of the movie, most of the people said that it was Shah Rukh Khan who made the movie a big hit. The major attraction of the movie was SRK with his six-pack which drew most of the crowd to choose between Saawariya and OSO.

srk-without-shirt-om-shanti.jpg

SRK told CNN-IBN in an interview ‘So far I think people have really liked it and they are loving it. But I could be completely wrong. Though, normally I am not wrong. I have been a part of many good and successful films’ and isn’t he right? Most of the people are only talking about SRK. Well, so most of the credit goes to SRK.

http://im.rediff.com/movies/2007/oct/31look2.jpg
In a surprising reversal of trend, Bollywood males did more skin show in films than their female counterparts in the year 2008.

Step aside all you sexy sirens. Your cleavages, midriffs and bouncy bums hardly make for titillating stuff on Bollywood celluloid anymore. Guys with rippling muscles, 6-pack abs and masculine butts have been in constant focus ever since the trail was blazed at the fag end of 2007 when Shahrukh Khan went shirtless for the first time in Om Shanti Om and Ranbir Kapoor did the towel dance and even exposed his bare butt to the camera in Saawariya .

2008 saw the bar of male nudity raised several notches higher by the likes of John Abraham , Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan.

John, who is doubtlessly an object of fantasy among his female (and male) fans, set a new milestone by not just baring his enviable bust, but also giving a peek of his hipline by pulling down his trunks to the limits Censorship would allow in the Karan Johar production Dostana . The movie, a light-hearted spoof on gay relationships, made both its stars – John and Abhishek Bachchan – iconic figures among the gay community. It also became one of the reasons for John to be chosen as the Sexiest Asian Male by a UK-based daily.

The most surprising strip-down of the year, however, was from Akshay Kumar , the actor who doesn’t believe in pumping iron in gymnasium or using myoplexes or other chemical substances to build his body. For the first time in his career, Akshay surprised his fans by going shirtless and exposing his finely shaved chest to the flashing cameras as he posed seductively with a sexy siren at the launch of a denim jeans. One pose even had the naughty girl extending her hand from behind Akshay and unbuttoning his low-waist jeans. That the otherwise conservative Akshay indulged in something as steamy as this goes to show the acceptability male nudity has acquired in Indian society. A few years ago, it would have raised tempers. Today, it only raises the brows of Akshay’s female fans.

However, the most symbolic skin show of the year comes from Aamir Khan , who trained mercilessly for over a year to develop a beefcake that has left many people – including good friend Sachin Tendulkar – flummoxed. Aamir, who doesn’t do anything without reason, has willy-nilly sparked off a new style statement among youth with his by-now-famous Ghajini haircut, which – believe it or not – had to be banned in some colleges because too many students were copying it, and the unique hairdo became a distraction for the studious collegians. Meanwhile, Aamir’s well-sculpted bust has made him the new pin-up boy of Bollywood.

Besides these three prominent stars, year 2008 also saw glimpses of partial nudity from the likes of Sohail Khan and Vatsal Seth (in Heroes ) and Ranbir Kapoor (in Bachna Ae Haseeno ).

And year 2009 will see John raising the bar still higher in the upcoming Yashraj Film New York in which he has gone Full Monty and wore not a thread of cloth on his body for a scene that, sadly, evokes more shock than titillation.

Now, that’s a pity!

Filmmakers in this hub of Indian cinema are already exploring how to bring the trauma of the deadly three-day siege of Mumbai to the big screen, an industry official said Thursday.

At least 25 titles — including "Taj to Oberoi" and "Mission Taj" — have been registered with the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association since the attacks that killed 164 people last month, Anil Nagrath, secretary of the Bollywood trade association, told The Associated Press.

Many of the registered titles center around the luxury Oberoi hotel and the Taj Mahal, whose burning dome became of the symbol of the attacks — including "Taj 26," "Taj to Oberoi," "The Taj Encounter," "11/26 Operation Taj," "Mission Taj" and "Mission Oberoi."

One proposed project is called "Nariman House" after the Jewish center where the attackers killed a rabbi and his wife, he said by telephone.

The Taj, the Oberoi, Nariman House and Mumbai's main train station were among 10 sites in the commercial capital targeted by 10 suspected Islamic terrorists.

Nagrath denied that Bollywood, as India's Hindi-language film industry is known, is capitalizing on a national tragedy.

"Whenever there is a big happening like this, be it a cyclone, be it a hurricane, be it a bomb attack or a carnage like this, the journalists write articles, television stations make special programs, authors write books," he said. "In the same way, for the filmmaker, the only option is to make a script, and the process of making a script begins with a title."

All the projects are still in early stages and are unlikely to be made soon because "the wounds are very raw," he said.

Veteran director B. Subhash, who registered the titles "Taj Terror" and "Bird's Point of View Taj Terror," said he is working on his script and hasn't cast any actors or set a budget.

"I can only say it is going to be very emotional," Subhash told the AP by telephone.

Bollywood stars have responded cautiously to the Mumbai attacks, even though filmmakers were eager to draw audiences back to the theaters at a time when the industry was already hit by global economic woes.

One of the industry's biggest stars, Shah Rukh Khan, went ahead with the release of his new comedy "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi," or "Match Made in Heaven," but was careful to strike the right tone, saying he hoped the film would provide relief from the recent events

Salman Khan broke his silence over the 26/11 attacks on Mumbai and spoke for the first time about Islam and terrorism. He said Islam doesn’t teach terrorism and Muslims should rather follow Quran than extremists. In a television interview he said,

“Islam mein toh yeh hai hi nahin… ya toh aap in terrorists ki baat suniye ya phir jo Rasool Allah (Prophet Mohammed) ne jo baatein sikhayi hain hadeeson mein aur jo Quran mein likha hai usey follow karein”

Criticizing the government like all the Bollywood actors have done in the past two weeks, he said -

“Jab buses aur trainon mein blast ho te thay everyone was going on with their normal regular life… ab jo yeh period hai unko aisa lag raha hai ke hum kahin par bhi safe nahin hain… ab government unki baatein sunegi - the powerful people who do not feel safe anymore… they will now take a stand… aur yeh achi baat hai… lekin yeh agar baat pehle ho jaati toh yeh naubath hi nahin aati.”

Salman also disapproved of the blame game India and Pakistan are playing after the attacks. He believes -

“Itna terrorism Pakistan mein khud ho raha hai… Benazir Bhutto maari gayi, Parvez Musharraf par kitne saare attacks hue hain… Marriott blast kardiya gaya… so this is not in control of even Pakistan. Main wahan ke newspapers toh pardhta nahin lekin agar wahan pe aisi koi ghatna hoti hai toh kya woh log bolte hain ke hindustaniyon ne kiya”

Talking about the Ram Gopal Varma’s controversial visit to Taj, Salman says,

“Picture ka set dekhne ke liye agar gaye hain toh woh toh bohot hi gadbad hai. Lekin agar woh saath mein thay aur he was concerned ke yeh kya hogaya I cant imagine this, then its fine.”

Akshay Kumar’s Italian Suit Worth 5 Lakhs

Aishwarya Rai made news when she picked up shades worth 10 Lakh rupees, Asin picked up shoes worth 2 lakhs and now Akshay Kumar has raised a lot of eyebrows when he decided to wear an Italian designer suit worth Rs. 5 lakh for his forthcoming film Kambakht Ishq.

The movie produced by Sajid Nadiadwala has been already declared one of the biggest budget films. It stars Hollywood biggies like Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh Brandon Routh, and Carmen Electra along with apne desi Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor.

A source from the film’s crew reported, “Akshay was shooting for his introductory scene in the film. Shabina had sent nearly a dozen suits, each priced at approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. But Akshay didn’t like any suit. There was chaos with everybody wondering how to resolve the problem since Akshay was supposed to shoot for the particular scene in a few hours.”
That’s when Akshay and Sabir decided to go shopping. “The scene also has Kareena Kapoor. Kambakkht Ishq also stars a few prominent Hollywood actors. Akshay obviously wanted to look suave so he chose a suit, which was much more expensive than what Sajid had imagined. But Sajid is a magnanimous producer. He and Akshay are quite close. In fact, they went to the same school (Don Bosco, Matunga) where Akshay was one year junior to Sajid,” said our source.

A source close to Sajid, confirmed the story and said, “Yes. This did happen. Akshay didn’t wear any of the suits sent by Shabina. But that’s okay. Such things do happen during film shoots. Akshay chose a superb black suit with a hint of blue. It’s a unique piece.”

All good things come for a price… and Akshay Kumar is getting pricey as he gets good.
